Boys & Girls Clubs Announce Reopening of Wakefield Community Boating on May 28, 2022

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Stoneham & Wakefield is excited to announce that it will reopen its Wakefield Community Boating program on Lake Quannapowitt on Saturday, May 28th. This will mark the second year that the Boys & Girls Clubs will operate the boating concession at Lake Quannapowitt, managing the daily rentals of kayaks and pedal boats through the summer and fall seasons.

The local boating program will launch this May with weekend hours and then provide operations and rentals 7 days a week over the peak summer months. The clubs will continue to fully staff the boating program with trained employees and provide program opportunities for local youth.

“We want to send a sincere thank you to the community and local businesses for their support and for embracing our boating program here in Wakefield. The core of our mission at The Boys & Girls Clubs is  to provide recreational and educational opportunities for children and families, and this program has allowed us to fulfill that,” said Adam Rodgers, Chief Executive Officer at Boys & Girls Clubs of Stoneham & Wakefield.

This season Wakefield Community Boating (WCB) will be adding kayak lessons for children ages 8-14 and will bring back its popular “Kayak for a Cause” fundraising program. Local groups and organizations can run a one day kayaking fundraiser with WCB and receive 50% back as a donation to their cause. In partnership with local businesses and organizations, the Boys & Girls Clubs also hopes to continue a variety of initiatives that will further connect the downtown area to the lake.

“It has been an amazing opportunity to be able to draw more visitors to the lake and bring people together to enjoy everything Wakefield has to offer. We look forward to continuing to provide a safe boating amenity to the entire community at affordable prices,” said Amanda Haley, Program Director for Wakefield Community Boating.

Reservations for the season are now being accepted on the Wakefield Community Boating website at wakefieldboating.com
